About

A Wellington education provider that does not lower the bar

Aucklandcore was founded in 2017 with a straightforward conviction: that secondary and pre-tertiary students are better served by high expectations than by comfortable ones.

What Aucklandcore does and who it serves

Aucklandcore is a supplementary education provider based in Wellington, New Zealand, serving secondary students in Years 11 to 13 and adult learners preparing for tertiary study. We offer four programme tracks — Level 1 Foundation, Level 2 Academic Skills, Level 3 Pre-Tertiary, and the Accelerated STEM Track — each designed to develop specific academic competencies through structured assessment, detailed written feedback, and small cohorts. We are not a tutoring agency, a homework club, or a cramming service. Our programmes require sustained effort from learners across a full term, and they are assessed to an external standard. Students who come to us are typically high-performing already and looking for a context that pushes them further — or they are capable learners who have not yet encountered an environment that requires precision and rigour. We serve students from across the Wellington metropolitan area, including the Hutt Valley and the Kapiti Coast.

How the team works and what we do not do

Aucklandcore's faculty comprises seven educators, all with formal tertiary teaching or research backgrounds. Most have taught at New Zealand universities or at schools with international curricula such as the International Baccalaureate. Since the organisation's founding in 2017, we have delivered programmes to over 340 students and have maintained a cohort cap of 18 students per programme track since inception. We work on a faculty-to-student model that prioritises written feedback over lecture delivery: the majority of contact time in every programme is allocated to workshop and seminar formats rather than one-way instruction. There are things we do not do. We do not teach to NCEA achievement standards, and we do not offer pastoral counselling or learning support for students with unmet special educational needs — we are an academic enrichment provider, not a support service. Outcomes also depend substantially on how consistently each individual student engages with the feedback and revision cycles built into every programme. We can provide the framework; we cannot supply the effort.

My daughter had been academically comfortable for two years — which was the problem. Aucklandcore's Level 2 programme was the first academic environment that asked her to be uncomfortable in a productive way. The written feedback from her faculty member was more specific than anything her school had provided, and she revised her work twice before she was satisfied. That habit has continued into Year 13.
